Machine operators often have a problem choosing
the right insert for the material and application.
Even with experience its easy to lose one's way
due to the number of different products and
  various designations, materials tables and
  applications advice: The CERATIZIT MasterGuide
shows you the way through the maze. The new
system for quick and accurate choice of insert.
With the MasterGuide you take the direct route. The quickest and the
safest, saves you time, prevents mistakes and ensures better quality
and cost effectiveness..

The new MasterGuide from CERATIZIT divides materials according to
VDI 3323 into six main groups. Each group is given a colour as is
already done in part with ISO 513.

Material levels

[CERATIZIT MasterGuide]

blue: steel
Machining, cementation, tempered and
constructional steels

yellow: stainless steel
Ferritic Cr-steels, austenitic CrNi-steels,
martensitic Cr-steels, duplex steels

red: cast iron
Cast iron, grey cast iron, tempered iron,
spheroidal cast iron, CGI, sintered iron

green: non-ferrous metal and non-metals
Al wrought and Al cast alloys, copper, copper
alloys, soft plastics and fibre reinforced plastics,
non metal materials

orange: heat resistant alloys / titanium
Ni-/Co-based alloys, Ti-alloys

white: hardened materials
hardened steels (=>45 HRC), chilled castings,
hard cast irons

Machining
levels

[CERATIZIT MasterGuide]

Each colour group is separated into 3 parts.
Each part indicates the type of machining.

Rough machining:
Feed = 0.6 - 1.2 mm
Depth of cut = 5 - 15 mm

Medium machining:
Feed = 0.25 - 0.6 mm
Depth of cut = 1.5 - 5 mm

Fine machining:
Feed = 0.05 - 0.25 mm
Depth of cut = 0.1 - 1.5 mm

Categories
of application

[CERATIZIT MasterGuide]

The ideal application area for an insert is depicted
by a black circle (continuous cut). Further
applications areas are depicted by an open symbol.
The CERATIZIT MasterGuide helps in the purchasing,
choice and application of inserts as well as reducing
the grades and geometries in your inventory.

Main application continuous cut
Further application continuous cut
Main application interrupted cut
Further application interrupted cut
